Member of the Month- September 2014
Name: William Spencer Major: Physiology major Hometown: Bangor, Maine (practically Canada) Why dentistry: Previously worked for a Physician’s Assistant and became interested in medicine. Wanted a more hands on career. Researched dentistry and interned at Silverbell Dental. I had a great time interning while learning more about the profession. I really liked the small clinic atmosphere and enjoyed the type of patient care that was provided at the dental clinic. |

Name: Erik Rivas
Major: Public Health
Hometown: Phoenix, Arizona
Why Dentistry: I chose dentistry because it's an overall great profession. It's health and science related, yet it has an artistic side to it. Also, I really want to work in a profession where I am able to make an impact on people's lives. Dentistry is capable of doing that in such a small amount of time and that's what makes it so fascinating to me.

Why Dentistry: From early on I was immersed in the field of dentistry because of my grandmother who was a dentist. The more time I spent shadowing her, the more intrigued I became with this beautiful profession. I love the idea of getting to help improve a person's smile, as well as their oral health and can't wait until I get to do so!

Name: Lorraine Villegas
Year: Freshman
Major: Sociology, Biology minor
Hometown: Phoenix, AZ
I come from a huge family that I absolutely love and adore, and I can say that everything I do is for them. I also have a huge passion for running, and I really enjoy playing sports, I played volleyball, soccer and ran track all throughout high school which eventually led me to winning most athletic senior, it was great! Now I'm ready for the great things college will bring me!
Why Dentistry: After shadowing a few professions I realized how much I really enjoyed being inside the dental clinic. I also grew to be very curious, I wanted to know what the patients were being seen for, what kind of procedures were going to be done and how to do them, at times I even wished the dentist would just let me try! Ridiculous I know (: I also chose dentistry because I feel that smiles share the story of happiness in one's life and everyone deserves to be happy so I would love to help people express it with confidence!

Name: Priscylla Diaz
Majors: Physiology and Public Health
Hometown: Phoenix, AZ
Why Dentistry: After about 4-5 years of braces and corrective work to fix a bad overbite, I have witnessed that dentistry is one of the few fields in medicine where one has the opportunity to improve someone's aesthetic appearance and yield results in as little as a couple visits or a couple of years. At your hands, you have the chance to change someone's self confidence, all it takes is some time and a lifelong relationship and from there, you can only improve.
